Biography

Rosa Parks (1913–2005) was an American activist in the civil rights movement best known for her pivotal role in the Montgomery bus boycott. On December 1, 1955, in Montgomery, Alabama, she refused to give up her seat to a white passenger, an act of defiance that became a symbol of the struggle against racial segregation. The boycott lasted 381 days and led to a Supreme Court ruling that segregation on public buses was unconstitutional. She became an international icon of resistance to racial segregation.
