Biography
Vincent van Gogh (1853–1890) was a Dutch post-impressionist painter whose work had a far-reaching influence on 20th-century art. In just over a decade, he created about 2,100 artworks, including around 860 oil paintings, most of them in the last two years of his life. His works include Starry Night, Sunflowers, and Bedroom in Arles. He struggled with mental illness and poverty and sold only one painting during his lifetime. He died by suicide at 37.
Sun in Aries: what it says about Vincent van Gogh
Vincent van Gogh's Aries Sun burns with the raw intensity of unmediated experience. Aries is ruled by Mars — the planet of passion, impulse, and the pioneer who charges ahead without regard for consequence. Van Gogh painted with Martian urgency, as if trying to capture life faster than it could escape. His technique — thick, aggressive brushstrokes of pure color — is Aries made visible: direct, unfiltered, almost violent in its honesty. The Aries shadow is self-destruction, the fire that burns too hot and too fast. Van Gogh's genius was also his torment: he couldn't moderate the intensity, couldn't bank the fire.
