☯ I Ching Hexagram Meaning

30. The Clinging
Lí · Fire over Fire
Judgment

The Clinging brings success through what attaches to something greater and reflects its light, like fire, which cannot burn on its own but clings to fuel to give warmth and brightness. Perseverance in what genuinely illuminates, and care in choosing what you attach yourself to, brings good fortune here.

Image

Fire rises twice over, brightness doubling upon itself. In the same way, a person of real insight continues and extends their own clarity, illuminating what surrounds them by staying attached to what genuinely deserves their light.

Meaning

You are drawing your light, energy, or identity from something outside yourself right now — a role, a relationship, a cause, a community — and The Clinging suggests this is not a weakness to fix but a natural condition worth examining honestly. Fire, after all, cannot burn without something to burn.

This energy asks you to choose carefully what you attach your brightness to, since what you cling to shapes what you illuminate. It also asks for consistency once the choice is made, clarity sustained over time, rather than a light that flares briefly and then goes dark for lack of real fuel.

What are you currently clinging to for your light, and is it actually worth illuminating?

✦ Astro Quote
So far as the personality is still potential, it can be called transcendent, and so far as it is unconscious, it is indistinguishable from all those things that carry its projections...[that is,] symbols of the outside world and the cosmic symbols. These form the psychological basis for the conception of man as a macrocosm through the astrological components of his character. - Carl G. Jung
